University of Glamorgan LPCThe Legal Practice Course at the University of Glamorgan is provided by the Faculty of Business Law and Society. The Glamorgan Law School has been delivering professional legal education for over 25 years and the University of Glamorgan LPC since its inception in 1993.

The Glamorgan Law School offers the University of Glamorgan LPC at the Treforest Campus.  It is a self-contained ‘student village’ with a train station very near.  Cardiff can be reached by direct rail link in 20 minutes.

The University of Glamorgan Legal Practice Course is a skills-based, ‘learning by doing’ course that gives students the foundation to start a training contract in a law office. They will surely develop the skills of advocacy, interviewing, legal writing, drafting and research while studying at  the University of Glamorgan LPC.

All Legal Practice Course activities are based on authentic scenarios. Students largely work in an interactive, small group setting that replicates the environment of a law office, a courtroom and a solicitor/client relationship.

University of Glamorgan LPC Facilities

The University of Glamorgan Legal Practice Course is housed in Ty Crawshay, a Grade Ii listed building.  It is newly refurbished and now boasts of an IT lab, two dedicated LPC resource rooms, a law library with an extensive collection of law volumes, law reports, practitioner volumes and journals.

The University of Glamorgan LPC is also supported by the state-of-the-art study facilities including a courtroom fully equipped with the latest digital video facilities, a legal practice library and dedicated teaching and practice rooms.   Research and preparation is assisted by the facilities of modern technology suites.

Glamorgan Law School LPC Online Learning

The Law Library as well as the University of Glamorgam LPC resource rooms have electronic resources via data bases such as Lewis Library and Westlaw both available o line 24/7 on- and off- campus.

While the University of Glamorgan LPC uses a variety of learning and teaching methods, such as face-to-face lectures, seminars and directed learning, these are supplemented by electronic learning.  Each module is supported by an online site that can be remotely accessed.

The University of Glamorgan LPC uses Blackboard, a widely-used virtual learning environment, to support learning and teaching. Extensive practitioner-recommended legal databases and course materials are available via Blackboard.  Course time-tables and schedules may be accessed remotely through Blackboard and students may also turn in their written course work through this portal.

Currently no distance learning option is available at Glamorgan.

University of Glamorgan LPC Study Hours

Students at the University of Glamorgan LPC learn through briefing sessions and practice sessions by completing practical law file exercises and replicating real-life legal scenarios.

Full time study will attend approximately 25 hours of classes each week.  Part time has approximately 8-9 hours of classes delivered one day per week.  Outside these formal sessions, all students are expected to carry out preparatory work and research for file exercises.

Assessment is by written examinations and practical skills. To complete the ‘real-life’ feel, assessment includes recorded role play in moot courtroom and client interviewing room.

Between March and June, students of the University of Glamorgan LPC have the opportunity to participate in the LPC work placement scheme.

University of Glamorgan LPC Admission Requirements / Application

Applicants must have an LLB (Hons) degree usually of class 2:2 or above, or all subjects of the Common Professional Examination, or a combined studies degree including the core law subjects prescribed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

University of Glamorgan Law School LPC Fees

LPC fee  full time is £8,500 for home students and EU nationals.

LPC fee part time: £4,400 per year

If you are looking for additional funding for your studies, some discretionary local authority funding and professional development loans may be available, some local law firms may offer sponsorship for the University of Glamorgan legal practice course.

Course fees include all course manuals, specifically prepared course materials, access to ICT resources and the SRA student registration fee.  SRA charges a separate fee 80 for student membership.

Students who have completed an LLB of GDL at the University of Glamorgan will be eligible for a maximum bursary of 1,000 over stages 1 and 2, applies for full time and part time.

University of Glamorgan LPC Open days

The University of Glamorgan LPC building may be toured, the facilities inspected and the teaching staff observed and or interviewed during the University Open Day usually held in June of each year.

The University of Glamorgan LPC also hosts Postgraduate Open Evenings.  These are friendly and informal sessions allowing applicants to have a one-to-one chat with academics and the finance team.  Postgraduate Open Evenings are usually scheduled in January.

University of Glamorgan LPC Careers Service

University of Glamorgan LPC students have access to the university’s careers service.  They offer a full careers programme to assist students in obtaining a legal training contract.  The also sponsors presentations from local law firms on topical issues in practice and workshops delivered by practitioners.  The Careers Service supports students in soliciting work placements, by emailing them notification of job vacancies, by scheduling mock interviews and by holding workshops on CV writing.

University of Glamorgan LPC Additional Information 

Completion of the University of Glamorgan Legal Practice Course may lead to a Diploma in Legal Practice.
