Nottingham Law School LPC Facilities

Nottingham University itself is spread out over three campuses but the Nottingham Law School Legal Practice Course is based at the Belgrave Centre, city campus.   It has a lecture theatre, 12 teaching rooms, refectory and seven skills rooms which are used for oral skills training. In addition to the facilities at the Boots Library, Law students have access to the Professional Resource Centre, where there is a library, silent study area and further IT facilities.

The Boots Library facilities include over 531,000 books, 2,800 journals, 10,000+ E.Journals, 260 databases, and various group study rooms. In addition, they support over 1,000 PC resource facilities for students and offers 24/7 computer access to enrolled students.

The Law section of the Library consists of an entire floor, containing 14,996 books on the subject of law, as well as access to online and written journals, cases, articles and legal online resources.

The emphasis at the Nottingham Trent University LPC is face to face teaching and personal contact. E-learning is only used where appropriate. Classes and seminars for the LPC are intimate enough to encourage participation by students. This learning is then reinforced in tutorials every other week.  There may be lectures by IT remote delivery but only when appropriate. Lectures are available for remote viewing by PC through the University’s IT portal.

There is no dedicated distance learning for the Nottingham Trent University LPC.

Nottingham Law School LPC Study Hours

The Nottingham Trent University only offers the one year, full-time LPC. Classes will be held at the City campus beginning September. For Stage One of the Nottingham Law School LPC, students will attend mostly face-to-face classes. The standard teaching day comprises one lecture for one hour, and one small group session for one and a half hours. The group work provides the focal point of the course with students carrying out a variety of practical tasks and exercises.  These group tasks give students the opportunity to develop problem-solving skills.

Nottingham Law School LPC Admission Requirements/ Application

Applicants to the Nottingham Trent University LPC need a qualifying law degree (normally 2.1 or above), or a Graduate Diploma in Law/CPE with a good first degree (normally a 2.1 or above), or an Institute of Legal Executives qualification

All applicants should provide evidence in their personal statement of their commitment to a career in law.

Applicants should ensure that their referee provides a full reference in support of their application.

In addition, applicants must have written evidence of having completed the academic training stage and must have registered as a student member of the SRA.

Nottingham Law School LPC Fees

The Nottingham Trent University LPC Fee is £9,960.  This includes of course materials, manuals, and assessment fees. There is also an SRA registration fee of £120 which the Law School will collect from you and pay to the SRA on your behalf.

Nottingham Law School LPC Open Days

Nottingham Trent University LPC holds open days in autumn and spring each year. Applicants must book their place should they wish to attend an open day which will provide them the opportunity to find out more about the course, meet tutors and current students, take a campus tour, view the facilities and take part in a careers workshop providing advice on how to gain a training contract.

Nottingham Law School LPC Careers Service

The Nottingham Trent University LPC has a dedicated careers team to provide guidance and support to help students secure a training contract. The Careers and Recruitment Service provides:

  • seminars with advice about training contract applications and interview techniques
  • a review of students’ training contract applications and formulate individual career plans
  • a practical interview preparation service
  • a mentoring scheme with trainees from local law firms to provide support and guidance and a personal view of what to expect from life in the profession
  • regular contact with firms specialising in all areas of law.

Nottingham Trent University LPC Additional Information

Nottingham Trent University LPC offers their award-winning pro bono programme.  They also have a Legal Advise Clinic for the local community. It provides free initial advice and referrals. Law students are supervised by qualified lawyers and they offer advice and assistance on legal problems.

Students who take their GDL and complete the one-year full time LPC successfully at Nottingham Law School  can apply for the award of a Graduate LLB* which is received after your successful completion of the LPC.
