NCLT Manchester LPCThe NCLT LPC Study Centre in Manchester was opened only in April 2010, and is located at the Hive on Lever Street.  The NCLT LCP Manchester Study Centre is a mere 5-10 minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly.  It is accessible with bus and tram stops close by.

NCLT Manchester LPC Facilities

The building of the NCLT LCP Manchester itself offers modern facilities such as fully air-conditioned rooms with natural lighting and WiFi services.

Upon enrollment in the NCLT Manchester LPC, each student will be provided with Comprehensive Course Manuals & Materials and a set of preparatory notes containing student instructions and class notes for every workshop session.  Course materials are provided in hard copy and in electronic format.

Each student will be assigned a personal tutor upon enrollment.  The personal tutor will meet the student face-to-face one a month in order to give him support and advice.

NCLT Manchester LPC Online Learning

At the Manchester Study Centre of the NCLT LCP, there is no dedicated on-line learning for the Legal Practice Course.  Instead, on-line support is given to the students by giving them personal access to an online study support system.  The on-line support gives tools such as: course time tables, latest news, course materials, access to tutor support, on-line self-testing as well as study centre information and assessment information. The NCLT LPC uses ‘Blackboard’ a virtual learning delivery system that may be accessed on and off campus.

At the NCLT LPC Manchester Study Centre, distance learning program for the Legal Practice Course  pre-consolidation and post-consolidation work of the students is done via distance learning.

NCLT Manchester LPC Electives

To complete Stage 2 Legal Practice Course students will study 3 vocational elective subjects. The NCLT LPC Manchester Study Centre offers a choice of 15 subjects. Each subject is divided into 8 study units and one of the study units is dedicated to revision.

National Centre for Legal Training Manchester LPC Study Hours

During Stage 1 of the NCLT LPC at the Manchester Study Centre, subjects are broken down into 2 hour workshop sessions.  Students undertake four workshop sessions over two days.  The full-time workshops take place on Fridays and Saturdays each week from September to May

The full-time LPC is a one year course from September to the beginning of March with study sessions taught on Fridays and Saturdays over a period of 36 weeks (excluding revision and vacation times). The number of subjects is prescribed by the SRA;

The part-time LPC is almost identical to the full-time course in content but it extends over 2 academic years. Workshops are scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays with e-learning support. Part-time students attend 2 days of face-to-face study sessions each month at weekends. There are about 9 monthly sessions from September to May in each academic year. In addition to study days, students are required to attend skills assessments and examinations held at various stages throughout the course. Students are required to undertake approximately 13 hours of study per week, but there are weeks when there will be more or less study time required.

Stage 2 runs from mid March to the beginning of June following the same schedule as in Stage 1.

Assessments for all Legal Practice Courses are open book written examinations. These assessments are held at different times during the year.

NCLT Manchester LPC Admission Requirements / Application

To apply for the LPC at all the NCLT LPC Manchester Study Centre, the student must present evidence of completion of the academic stage of training with confirmation from the SRA.  The student must also enroll with the SRA.  Applicants to the Legal Practice Course need to have completed the academic stage and normally have a recent law degree or a Graduate Diploma in Law or appropriate professional qualifications which the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority accepts as equivalent.

NCLT Manchester LPC Open days

Partner and affiliate universities of NCLT Legal Practice Course schedule law fairs in the autumn each year.  At these events law education providers present the courses they provide.

Partner and affiliate universities of the NCLT Legal Practice Course also schedule university presentations in autumn and spring.  At these university presentations, the NCLT Director speaks to prospective students for them to learn more about the NCLT and the LPC course provided by the NCLT.

The NCLT Manchester offers support to prepare students for legal practice:

  1. It has strong links with the legal profession.
  2. The personal tutor assigned to each student provides advice and information on becoming a solicitor, on applying for a training contract, on enhancing their CV/ application, on how to handle the interview and also on alternative careers in law.
  3. The NCLT LPC Manchester Study Centre has a Career Development Unit which provides a wealth of information on how to prepare CVs, how to fill up application forms and tips on interview skills.
  4. The NCLT LPC Manchester Study Centre schedules a Careers Evening hosted by law firms and prospective employers.  This is an opportunity for LPC students to make contacts for possible future employment.  To attend the Careers Evening which is scheduled in the months of January and February 2012, students have to book and confirm their attendance prior to the event.

National Centre for Legal Training LPC Additional Information

At the NCLT completing an LPC may count towards an LLM.  A student interested in completing the Legal Practice course alongside the LLM will simply have to enroll in the two-day intensive research methods programme (held at UWE, Bristol) to equip them to do the research necessary to write their dissertation and obtain their LLM.
